Soccerish Saturday
Just got back from Utrecht, a city 1 hour away from Rotterdam. The Final of the World Youth Soccer Championships we on and in the final, Nigeria was to lock horns with Argentina. Naturally, Femi wanted to go and support his mother Nigeria team and I - despite being from a distant shore from West Africa across the expanses of lakes, tropical forests, villages/cities and some unexplored lands...yeah...being from East Africa - I couldnt help but support my "brodas". We trudged on to the Stadion Galgenwaard in Utrecht.

There was some massive drum-beating and the odd paradoxical delightful cacophony of drums, claps, boos, cheers, jeers, gasps and screams...all these infiltrating the air and were only rivalled in intensity by
- the Mexican wave which did a record 4 rounds unbroken in the stadium
- the skill of John Mikel Obi and his band of merry, talented and entertaining Nigerian youthy lads
- the overrating of Lionel Messi and a lacklustre Argentinian team
- the fact that the referee sucked muito ass in his decisions, much to the disgust of the crowd
- dancing to the original version of "Obiterere" (as opposed to the AIESEC Kenya-nized remix)...
